When I was 15 years old, I decided what I wanted to do with my life.
I remember like it was yesterday. I walked straight up to my mom in the living room, and I said:
“Mom, I want to be a photographer."
It was just days before that I'd discovered an online community of artists known as DeviantArt.com, and was led down a rabbit hole of digital photography art and manipulation. I quickly found a passion for Photoshop and Self Portraits, and using my little 6 MP digital camera I'd gotten as a Christmas gift, I began to develop my photographic skills.
I went on to spend my entire teenage years on the computer! Hah, I’m only half kidding.
I fell in love with photography and I became obsessed with learning new editing techniques and ways to manipulate my photos. I even got accused of plagiarism in my Grade 11 Photoshop class, and my dad had to come to the school and put my teacher in her place ;)
After I graduated, I decided I wanted to study photography, but I really didn’t want to go to college because I had my heart set on traveling. So when I found a Diploma program with The Photography Institute of Vancouver that I could complete through correspondence, I applied, got accepted and packed my bags.
But photography wasn’t the only thing I’d studied while abroad. After spending some time in Thailand at a Muay Thai Boxing Camp, I was introduced to my second passion.
Initially I fell in love with yoga because it cured my chronic back pain (which I’d suffered from since I was 16, after being launched out the back window in a car accident). But after my practice deepened, yoga had a profound effect on my life and mindset and knew I wanted to become a teacher.
Fast forward a few years later, with 5 countries under my belt, a diploma in Professional Photography, and an ambitious heart, I decided it was time to start my business. With my camera and yoga mat in hand, I was ready to take on the entrepreneurial lifestyle.
Here we are, 14 years later and I am still riding that beautiful roller coaster of experience. Every year, every day, presents new opportunities and ideas, new lessons to learn and comfort zones to step out of. Photography has taken me all over the world and to places I never even saw coming. From international destination weddings to cross country aerial photography, I’ve learned so much in such a short period of time and have been through some amazing adventures along the way.
Now I’m taking what I've learned and my passion for creating, and building an online boutique of tools and resources for other photographers and entrepreneurs to further their own creative success. I’ve built a space online where I hope to enrich and inspire the lives of others by educating on topics like photoshop, photography, mindful entrepreneurship, and sharing the yogi photographer lifestyle.
Which brings me to my third passion.
I want to create a space where I can offer as much of my knowledge as possible, in a fun and relatable way, so as to help other likeminded people with their struggles and help them reach their goals.
Whether this be through gaining editing skills, inspiring creativity, learning about the yogi entrepreneur, or how taking care of your body and mind can manifest prosperity in your life, I have all kinds of things I want to share on my four main topics:
Photoshop | Photography | Yoga | Entrepreneur Life
Which of course leads me to the reasons why I decided to start this blog. Earlier this year, I retired The Ash Tree Collective my original blog of six years and after spending the Summer rebranding and redesigning my business, I knew it was time to create a new space.
So I hope you'll follow along with me as I start this new adventure. And I hope you'll get in touch with me to lend me your thoughts, comments and feedback. Here are all the places we can connect:
